The Jefferson Service Award
Vision
In 1972, The Jefferson Awards for Public Service organization was founded by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft Jr., and Sam Beard. The goal was simple, create a "Nobel Prize

In 2007, the Jefferson Awards in partnership with Deloitte & Touche launched a national Youth Service Initiative to encourage high school students to get involved in volunteering and community service. Students in Action was formed and opened in five US markets with 97 original high schools.
Since 2007, Pioneer has been a committed member of the San Francisco Bay Area market. We have recognized over ### students, earned multiple bronze, silver and gold banners for our participation in the program, in 2019 earned the Regional Banner Award for the Bay Area, and presented in the National Students in Action Conference in Washington D.C.
Students in Action rebranded itself in 2021 as Multiplying Good. The mission stayed the same: expand youth volunteerism. In the fall of 2024, Multiplying Good announced that it would be ending operations. Pioneer Service Learning had decided to continue offering the Jefferson Award to its students with the support of the Pioneer Foundation.
Description
This award recognizes students who have participated in unique community service. The Jefferson Team awards one winner every month. Several previous winners have collected used sports equipment for a YMCA, organized a book fair for local elementary schools, and created an adult night school to teach English and Hindi.
Application
Students can be nominated for this award by any parent, teacher, or even the student themselves. You can nominate a person in room P-4, the library, or in Student Services. Also, you can email your nomination to phsjefferson@gmail.com. After being nominated, students will receive a letter allowing them to
schedule an interview in room P-4.
